In short
- After the election on 24 Mar 2026, Denmark is governed by a four-party coalition of the Social Democrats, SF, Radikale Venstre and the Moderates. Its government platform of June 2026 contains no wealth tax.
- A tax reform is proposed: the middle and top-top income tax brackets are to go, and corporate tax is to fall by 3 percentage points over three years. The bill is expected in February 2027.
- A new inheritance duty is also proposed: a higher allowance of DKK 566,000 and an additional 15% band on estates above DKK 10m, excluding business succession.
- Law in force is the exit tax on shares (fraflytterskat): from DKK 100,000 and usually after a total of 7 years of tax liability, gains count as realised on departure. Interest-free deferral is possible.
- Liechtenstein doesn't override Danish rules. Which deferral conditions apply to a move to Liechtenstein has to be checked case by case.

What applies in Denmark, and what's proposed?
Sorted, with sources. Much of the government platform is not yet law.

The new government's tax reform
- Coalition platform of June 2026 (Prime Minister’s Office, Danish): the middle tax bracket goes, the top-top bracket goes and is financed through a new model for principal shareholders.
- Share income: 27% is to apply up to DKK 110,000. Corporate tax minus 3 percentage points over three years, not for the financial sector. Share savings account contribution limit DKK 500,000.
- According to Kromann Reumert, the bill is expected in February 2027 (Kromann Reumert, Danish).
- A wealth tax is not in the government platform (TjekDet, Danish).

Inheritance duty (boafgift)
- According to the tax ministry (Ministry of Taxation, Danish): the allowance rises from DKK 403,700 to DKK 566,000.
- New: an additional 15% on the part of an estate above DKK 10m, excluding business succession.
- Part of the 2027 finance bill, still a proposal.

Exit tax on shares (fraflytterskat)
- If you move away holding shares worth at least DKK 100,000, unrealised gains are taxed. This usually applies if you were taxable in Denmark for a total of at least 7 years (Danish Tax Agency, Danish).
- Interest-free deferral is possible, with an annual report, first due by 1 July of the following year. For moves to a country outside the EU and the Nordic countries, security must be provided. For Liechtenstein, check case by case.
- Share income 2026: 27% up to DKK 79,400, 42% above (Danish Tax Agency, Danish).
As of 1 Nov 2026. Reforms proposed, exit tax in force. We will update this page when things change.
What it honestly means
Denmark is cutting parts of income tax and restructuring inheritance duty. For founders, three things matter:
- Exit taxes hit those who move late. What's taxed is the growth built up in Denmark until you leave. If you're seriously considering a move, plan early and get advice in both countries.
- Substance, not a mailbox. An address alone is neither a residence nor a company seat. If you build something in Liechtenstein, you need a real presence: a registered company with its seat and desks on the ground, a team, and decisions made here. More: Substance in Liechtenstein.
- Moving doesn't erase your home country's rules. Denmark applies its own rules on tax liability, deferral and security. Double taxation questions come on top: Double taxation and Liechtenstein.
Why we still like talking about Liechtenstein: the environment is predictable. Founders plan in years, not in headline cycles.
Exit taxes in Europe compared
Almost everywhere, what grew in the old country is taxed. A short comparison as of 1 Nov 2026. Every country including wealth and data taxes: Tax news Europe.
