Online notarisation
in Liechtenstein with eID
Incorporation, articles amendments, capital increases or share transfers: in Liechtenstein you can have public deeds executed over video without travelling to Vaduz. This is possible since the revision of the Notaries Act (LGBl. 2024 No. 18) and the state notarisation and certification system ebeurkundung.li, which has had its own ordinance since 1 March 2026. You need the Liechtenstein eID.li, which you can get from abroad by video identification.
In short
- The certifying officer (an admitted Liechtenstein notary or a certifying officer of the national administration) and all parties are connected in real time through ebeurkundung.li for the whole act (Notaries Act Art. 49a).
- For company resolutions that require a public deed, the parties then do not need to be physically present (PGR Art. 177(5a)).
- You approve the deed with a qualified electronic signature or by consent with your eID. The deed states that it was created electronically and which means of identification were used (Notaries Act Art. 49b, 49c).
- The filing with the commercial register then goes online through the service portal with eID (PGR Art. 984d).
What you need
eID.li for every person
Every party identifies with the eID.li. The law also accepts notified EEA eIDs and recognised Swiss or third-country means, but according to the national administration the system itself requires the eID.li. It is open to natural persons in Liechtenstein and abroad.
A certifying officer with system access
A Liechtenstein notary admitted to ebeurkundung.li by the Chamber of Notaries, or a certifying officer of the national administration. Access is granted on application, so not every notary offers it.
Final drafts
Articles, resolution, transfer agreement or subscription form are agreed before the appointment. We prepare the documents and align them with the certifying officer.
A device with camera and a stable connection
The connection has to hold for the whole act. For the eID pre-registration you need a second device, because it must not run on the device with the eID app.
Step by step
01 Apply for the eID.li
Pre-register on videoid-eid.li (official site of the national administration), CHF 15, age 18+, with passport or ID card. Complete the video identification within 6 days of payment; activation usually follows the next day, at the latest after 5 days.02 Define the act and documents
Which act is it, who has to take part, do you need a bank confirmation, powers of attorney or register extracts? We draft the documents.03 Certifying officer and appointment
A Liechtenstein notary with access to ebeurkundung.li or a certifying officer of the national administration confirms the drafts and invites all parties to the online appointment.04 Live identification and reading
Everyone logs in with eID and stays connected in real time. The certifying officer checks identities, reads out the content and answers questions.05 Approve and sign
You approve with a qualified electronic signature or by consent with eID. The certifying officer signs with a qualified notarisation signature.06 Filing with the commercial register
The filing and supporting documents go online with eID to the Office of Justice. A GmbH formed by natural persons using the templates is registered within 5 working days, otherwise within 10 (PGR Art. 984e).
Which acts work online
For the GmbH; the AG and other legal entities have their own articles. “Online” means via ebeurkundung.li with eID, without physical presence.
| Act | Form under the PGR | Online? |
|---|---|---|
| GmbH formation | Articles by public deed (Art. 390(1)) | Yes, all founders with eID. Alternative: single-member GmbH via the LLV online formation without a deed, with a bank confirmation and a certified specimen signature. |
| AG formation | Public deed (Art. 281) | Yes, same requirements. |
| Articles amendment (name, purpose, seat within Liechtenstein) | Resolution by public deed (Art. 177(1)) | Yes (Art. 177(5a)). |
| GmbH capital increase | Public deed of each subscription (Art. 420) | Yes. Payment and bank confirmation work as at formation. |
| Transfer of shares | Public deed (Art. 403(4)) | Yes. Effective towards the company only after notice and entry in the share register (Art. 403(1)). |
| Change of managing director | No deed, written resolution | Yes, filing with eID. With an eID filing no extra certification is needed (Art. 984d). Art. 180a PGR still applies. |
| Seat transfer abroad | Resolution and approval by the Office of Justice (Art. 234) | Partly. The Liechtenstein side works online; the law of the receiving state decides on the other side. |
| Dissolution and liquidation | Dissolution resolution by public deed (Art. 423, 177) | Yes, including the filings up to deletion. |
| Commercial register filings | Filing with supporting documents (Art. 963, 984d) | Yes, via the service portal with eID.li or QES. |
| Stand-alone signature certification | Certification (Notaries Act Art. 49e) | Limited: remote certification of a person who is not present is only provided in connection with an electronic deed. |
Limits you should know
- No eID.li, no access to ebeurkundung.li. Video identification is only available from age 18.
- Non-Liechtenstein nationals identified by video get a class C eID.li. It works for all services of the national administration, but not for other EEA services (LLV FAQ).
- The certifying officer must take part live; there is no notarisation without a real-time connection.
- If there are doubts about legal capacity, authority to represent or identity, the Office of Justice can require physical presence (PGR Art. 963(4a)).
- If a company is a shareholder, a representative acts with their own eID and proof of authority, for example a certified register extract with apostille.
- Whether foreign banks or registers accept an electronic Liechtenstein deed should be checked with the recipient in advance.
- The management requirement of Art. 180a PGR still applies when everything runs online. There are two ways to meet it: your own managing director resident in the EEA or Switzerland, or a licensed Liechtenstein trustee.
- The system deletes electronic deeds after 60 days; the certifying officer keeps them (E-Government Ordinance Art. 4b). Save your copy.
What it costs
The eID.li by video costs CHF 15. Commercial register fees follow the fee ordinance; a GmbH formation comes to about CHF 780 to 880 (non-binding guide values). The notary fee for the electronic deed is on request. The full calculation with trustee and office is in the incorporation cost calculator.

Frequently asked questions
Can I form a company in Liechtenstein fully online?
Yes. The articles are notarised electronically via ebeurkundung.li, all founders join by video with eID.li, and the commercial register filing runs online. A single-member GmbH can also be formed without a deed through the LLV online formation. The Art. 180a PGR management requirement applies in both cases.
Do I need the Liechtenstein eID?
In practice yes. The law also accepts notified EEA eIDs and recognised Swiss or third-country means, but according to the national administration the ebeurkundung.li system requires the eID.li. You can get it by video identification on videoid-eid.li for CHF 15, also if you live abroad.
How long until the eID.li is active?
After pre-registration you have 6 days for the video identification. Activation usually follows the next day, at the latest after 5 days.
Which acts cannot be done online?
Almost all company acts work online. Limited are stand-alone signature certifications without a deed and the receiving state's side of a seat transfer abroad. The Office of Justice can require physical presence if in doubt.
Who carries out the online notarisation?
A Liechtenstein notary admitted to ebeurkundung.li by the Chamber of Notaries, or a certifying officer of the national administration. The certifying officer must be connected live for the whole act.
Is an electronic deed equivalent?
Yes, it is a public deed under the Notaries Act. It states that it was created electronically and which means of identification were used. Whether a foreign authority accepts it should be checked with that authority in advance.
Can a share transfer be done online?
Yes. A transfer of GmbH shares requires a public deed (PGR Art. 403(4)), which can be executed via ebeurkundung.li. Notice to the company and entry in the share register follow.
